Larissa is a delightful town situated in Central Greece, that is dominated by the stunning Medieval castle and grounds that overlook the city from above. Larissa is also referred to as the "heart of the Thessalian plain" due to its geographic location.
Larissa is like many other cities in Greece, though it is one that has some nice places worth visiting. The main square of the town is the Makariou Square, where you can enjoy a drink or coffee in one of the cafes or bars that operate here.
The square itself is very nice with fountains and beds of colourful and bright flowers.
The archaeological museum here is well worth visiting, and you can see on display a wonderful selection of exhibits and findings from the Neolithic period.
There is also the Pinakothiki gallery which houses a wonderful collection
of works of art of modern Greek paintings, and which is second only to the
National Gallery in Athens.
